$950,420 awarded county, two housing organizations in eastern Nebraska

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has awarded $950,420 in Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Funds to Fillmore County, Blue Valley Community Action, Inc., and NeighborWorks Lincoln to undertake various housing activities.

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has awarded $950,420 in Nebraska Affordable Housing Trust Funds to Fillmore County, Blue Valley Community Action, Inc., and NeighborWorks Lincoln to undertake various housing activities.

  • Fillmore County will use $229,120 to implement a Homeownership Opportunity Program that helps eight new qualifying homeowners earning at or below 100 percent of the Area Median Family Income. Because some existing homes in Fillmore County also may have deteriorating conditions, minor rehabilitation also will be available for some projects as part of the program.   • Blue Valley Community Action, (BVCA) Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Fairbury received awards for two projects. It will use $200,000 to offer an owner-occupied rehabilitation program for seven qualifying homeowners living in Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Saline, Thayer and York counties, and earning at or below 100 percent of the Area Median Family Income. Homes will receive essential electrical, plumbing, heating, roofing, structural, and energy conservation upgrades to meet code requirements.

    BVCA also will use $300,000 to implement a Homeownership Opportunity Program that helps eight new qualifying homeowners earning at or below 100 percent of the Area Median Family Income. Homeowners may opt to purchase existing or newly-constructed single-family homes in Butler, Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Polk, Saline, Seward, Thayer and York counties. In addition to down payment assistance, eligible buyers will be able to access additional money for housing rehabilitation to may any needed repairs.   • Neighborhoods Inc. dba NeighborWorks Lincoln, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Community Housing Development Organization, will use $221,300 to implement a Down Payment Assistance program that provides down payments, closing costs, and rehabilitation loans (as needed) to seven new qualifying homeowners earning at or below 100 percent of the Area Median Family Income, and purchasing homes in Lincoln’s core neighborhoods. Selected homeowners also will be required to attend a nine-hour homebuyer training. An additional $712,667 from First Mortgage Primary Lender will complete the project. Contact Michael A.
