Celebrate “40 Years of Building Strong Communities”

That the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program is marking its 40th year of funding and supporting the development of communities nationwide is, in itself, a remarkable achievement. But factor in the determination and perseverance of local, state and federal partners working to achieve shared goals of building communities, and it becomes a testament to American fortitude and ingenuity.

National Community Development Week, set for April 21-April 26, will celebrate the achievements of communities nationwide and the projects that have spurred this economic growth and development.

The State also will celebrate community development week with a special recognition ceremony, April 22, at the Nebraska State Capitol during which Governor Dave Heineman will present the 2014 Showcase Community award.

There is still time to nominate your community for the Showcase honor, by submitting a 2014 Showcase Community Nomination form no later than March 15. To learn about the requirements, or to access a form, go to the Nebraska Department of Economic Development’s webpage: http://staging.neded.org/community-development-week
