What is Community Development Week?
The National Community Development Association initiated National Community Development Week in 1986. This annual campaign is designed to give local as well as national attention to accomplishments made possible by the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the HOME Investment Partnerships (HOME) Program.
The State of Nebraska and the Nebraska Department of Economic Development celebrates Community Development Week by recognizing communities with high achievement in community and economic development as Showcase Communities.
Showcase Community Awards
Up to three communities can be selected annually for recognition as Showcase Community.
Showcase Communities are those which demonstrate exceptional capacity in the last five years to:
- Identify community development goals and strategies;
- Combine local, state, and federal resources to achieve those goals, and
- Accomplish major projects with positive impacts on the community
Award winners are announced at a special event with the Governor at the State Capitol during Community Development Week. To nominate your community or another community, please complete the showcase community award nomination form below.
