More than $2 million in CDBG funding awarded to six communities for housing rehabilitation

The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has awarded $2,120,00 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to six Nebraska communities to complete owner occupied rehabilitation throughout Nebraska.

DECEMBER 20, 2016 (LINCOLN, NEB.) — The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has awarded $2,120,00 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to six Nebraska communities to complete owner occupied rehabilitation throughout Nebraska.

The CDBG Owner Occupied Rehabilitation Category is open to CDBG non-entitlement incorporated municipalities throughout the state in order to rehabilitate homes owned by persons at or below 80% of the Area Median Income. Grants are administered by DED from the State’s annual allocation of CDBG funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Below are brief descriptions about the six communities that will be undertaking residential rehabilitation projects and their awards:

Deshler (pop. 747) —$265,000 in CDBG funds will be used to rehabilitate approximately eight units within the community. All persons served through the program must have incomes at or below 80% of the Area Median Income. An additional $19,875 in matching resources will be used for the project. Fairbury (pop. 3,927) —$331,250 in CDBG funds will be used to improve approximately 10 residential units in the city for families at or below 80% of the Area Median Income. Fairmont (pop. 540) —$430,625 in CDBG funds will be used to rehabilitate approximately 13 additional units in this small community. Fairmont has shown great success in leveraging CDBG resources in the past with a diverse number of projects that have included public works, planning, and residential rehabilitation. An additional $27,500 in matching resources will be used for the project that will total over $458,000 in additional investment into the community and will serve local residents who include families at or below 80% of the Area Median Income. Gothenburg (pop. 3,558) —$397,500 in CDBG funds will be used to rehabilitate approximately 12 units within this historic community. Each unit completed in the project will serve persons at or below 80% of the Area Median Income. An additional $35,000 in matching resources will also be used for the project. North Platte (pop. 24,534) —$397,500 in CDBG funds will be used to assist approximately 12 homeowners, at or below 80% of the Area Median Income, with residential rehabilitation. Walthill (pop. 769) —$298,000 in CDBG funds will be used to complete an owner occupied rehabilitation project that will serve approximately nine households at or below 80% of the Area Median Income within the community.
