Thanking the Nebraska Diplomats By Governor Dave Heineman
September 13, 2013
Dear Fellow Nebraskans:
For more than four decades, an organization in Nebraska has worked to support and bolster the economic growth and development of Nebraska. With the annual Nebraska Diplomats events upon us, it is a good time to recognize the hard work that our local business men and women offer to support Nebraska’s economic development efforts.
Nebraska is a great state to work, play and grow a business, and the Nebraska Diplomats exemplify this. With a membership of more than 475 business executives and community leaders, the Nebraska Diplomats is the largest economic development organization in our state.
As a nonprofit corporation the Nebraska Diplomats forms alliances with other Nebraska economic development organizations to promote the state’s productive business climate and its unique quality of life. The Diplomats organization provides a connection to Nebraska leaders without political, organizational or geographic restrictions.
Through the Nebraska Diplomats program, these dedicated men and women are building new and lasting connections with businesses throughout our state, country and world, sharing with them the benefits of doing business in Nebraska. These economic development ambassadors are helping brand the state as a place where people who value trust, goodwill and diplomacy find these qualities in abundance. Nebraska Diplomats have supported generations of business leaders from Harrison to Falls City and Haigler to Wynot, and are continuing to do so today.
Each diplomat is charged with supporting the business recruitment efforts of the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. They work closely with community leaders and state officials to improve Nebraska’s business climate and competitiveness by attracting major recruitment projects. Through these connections, we are able to match executives and business leaders in a variety of industries including energy, hospitality, manufacturing, transportation and logistics, financial, and information technology.
Nebraska Diplomats invest their own personal time into helping move our state forward. They schedule face-to-face meetings with business leaders throughout Nebraska, in other states, and other countries to share their firsthand experience with those interested in expanding or locating their business here. Their breadth of personal knowledge builds a sense of credibility as it relates to doing business in Nebraska.
Additionally, they host events throughout the year including Business Recognition Day in the spring and the Nebraska Diplomats Passport Weekend in the fall. With the Nebraska Diplomats Passport Weekend approaching, members invite guests and prospects from throughout the United States and the world to visit our state and enjoy all that Nebraska has to offer. They offer roundtable discussions with highly accomplished and successful CEOs and business consultants. They are invited for personal and individualized industry tours of Nebraska businesses and communities. The weekend culminates with a tailgate event hosted by the First Lady and myself at the Governor’s Residence, followed by a Husker game at Memorial Stadium.
Because many of our weekend guests are CEOs from corporate headquarters around the country that have businesses here, the Nebraska Diplomats Passport Weekend provides us with the opportunity to thank them for their ongoing vote of confidence in choosing Nebraska.
If you are interested in becoming a Nebraska Diplomat, we would welcome a discussion about all that you could accomplish with this important organization. I look forward to welcoming and working with the next generation of Nebraska Diplomats and thank those serving our state.
We are always open to welcoming new members and appreciate the support of our fellow Nebraskans as we work together to keep Nebraska as one of the top locations in the world for business. After all, Nebraska is “Open for Business.”
