The Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) has awarded $20 million in state aid to Charles Drew Health Center in Omaha through the Federally Qualified Health Centers Grant Program.

The funds will help provide services to the homeless and residents of public housing. Charles Drew Health Center will use the grant funds for renovation and expansion to improve and increase direct patient care access and supportive services. The health center will also use the award to create workforce opportunities in primary medical care, dental care, behavioral health care (including substance use disorder services), pharmacy services, health center operations and enabling support.

The Federally Qualified Health Centers Grant Program was created by the Nebraska Legislature through the Economic Recovery Act (LB 531) and signed into law by Governor Jim Pillen on June 6, 2023.
